Signs

There are signs everywhere. Stop, yield, no parking. Etc. These signs give us valuable information.

My son Will is a visual person. He likes to be able to see everything. We had a visual schedule of pictures which worked well for a short period of time....then didn't. He now likes to have it written out. When his staff comes, the first thing they do is write out their schedule. Then it gets followed to the letter. If staff or mommy wants to change the schedule a meeting has to be held to discuss and explain.

In the hopes for creating a less confusing environment (especially when dads there to watch Will- mommy can't be getting random calls at work about which chores are available for that day or if the dishwasher is clean or dirty) I have created lists/signs and laminated them. There is a list of the different chores he can complete with staff direction, there is a list of non negotiable items for his daily schedule. (ie- meds, dinner, shower and reading). There is a sign on the dishwasher now that will tell you if the dishes are clean or dirty so there is no guessing or touching potential dirty dishes {or putting them away-yuck!}

I know Will doesn't like having anyone in the bathroom while he showers so I wrote a very simplified list of his shower routine. I thought it was sufficient but I seem to have left out a key component: don't remove list and play with it in the bath! Oh well, hoping it will dry out (it is laminated- but that obviously does NOT mean completely waterproof!)

I also made up a quick House Rules sign. The cleaning up your messes is just as much for daddy when he is over watching Will as it is for Will himself.

What signs/lists do you have around your house?
